Essential Ingredients for Your Apple Pie

Before we dive into the recipe, let's gather the essential ingredients. For homemade apple pie, you'll need all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, unsalted butter, ice water, apples, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, and a touch of egg wash. These simple yet vital components come together to create a pie that's the epitome of comfort and tradition, perfect for any occasion.

Apple Pie Recipe

Ingredients:For the Pie Crust:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes

  • 6-8 tablespoons ice water

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6-7 cups apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (e.g., Granny Smith, Honeycrisp)

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions:For the Pie Crust:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.

  2. Add the cold butter cubes and cut them into the flour using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough comes together. Divide the dough into two portions, shape them into discs, and wrap them in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

For the Apple Filling: 4. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice.

  1. In a separate bowl, mix the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt. Sprinkle this mixture over the apples and toss to coat evenly.

For Assembling and Baking: 6. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  1. On a floured surface, roll out one of the dough discs to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Transfer the crust to the dish and trim any excess dough.

  2. Fill the pie crust with the apple filling.

  3. Roll out the second dough disc and place it over the apples. Trim and crimp the edges to seal the pie.

  4. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. Optionally, brush the top crust with an egg wash for a golden finish.

  5. Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips and bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly.

  6. Allow the apple pie to cool for a while before slicing and serving.

  7. Slice, serve, and savor your homemade apple pie, a slice of comfort and tradition.
